The autumn of CAMERA will feature an extraordinary figure of 20th century world culture: the American photographer Lee Miller.
The new exhibition, curated by Walter Guadagnini, presents over 160 images from the Lee Miller Archiviesmany of them almost unpublished, for a public as well as an intimate insight into his work and his extraordinary personality. The exhibition also kicks off the celebrations for the 10 years of the Centre which will propose a wide-ranging programme dedicated to the world of photography in its infinite facets.
The exhibition focuses on the work of the photographer between the 1930s and 1950sdocumenting his role as a bridge between the United States, Europe and Africa, where he had experiences fundamental to his art. Lee Miller was the protagonist of the surrealist movementcollaborating with Man Ray and contributed to the discovery of solarisation. She was close to figures such as Pablo Picasso, Max Ernst, Paul Éluardand made emblematic artistic and documentary images. After a parenthesis in Egypt, he returned to Europe on the eve of World War II, working for Vogue and witnessed the conflict with dramatic photographs of concentration camps and the fall of the Nazi regime. After the war he retired to the English countryside, but his creative spirit continued to emerge in his private life.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue published by Dario Cimorelli Publisher and by a programme of image education initiatives targeting different audiences in terms of age and education.
