Roads end before they begin

This extraordinary monographic exhibition is dedicated to Vincenzo Agnetti, one of the most influential protagonists of the’Conceptual Art Italian of the 20th Century, on the occasion of the centenary of his birth. The exhibition, curated by Alessandro Castiglioni in collaboration with theVincenzo Agnetti Archive, focuses on the artist's specific interest in the conceptual photography and its ability to use the photographic fragment as a powerful narrative tool.

The exhibition route does not follow a strict chronological order, but winds its way through themes that intertwine narration, writing e technology. At the heart of the exhibition is the cycle After the big manoeuvres, acquired by the museum thanks to the support of Photography Strategy 2025 of Ministry of Culture. These works originate from the discovery in Gibraltar of a Japanese photographic collection from the 19th century, which Agnetti reinterpreted by inserting graphic and textual elements, creating a poetic play of time mirroring and irony.

The masterpieces on display include iconic works such as the Throne, realised together with Paolo Scheggi, Elizabeth of England and the famous Forgotten book by heart. The project highlights the practice of decontextualisation e recontextualisation typical of the artist, offering a profound insight into his constant dialogue with the history and the media, consolidating the link between the MA*GA Museum by Gallarate and the great tradition of the international avant-garde.
