Under the direction of Chiara Bertola, programming of the GAM is profoundly renewed through the cycle of Resonances, an organic cultural project that transforms the museum into a living organism. The exhibition route is not limited to a static review, but builds subtle connections and conceptual entanglements between works in the permanent collection, the history of the territory and contemporary production. The structure is divided into two annual seasons that explore universal themes, dynamically reorganising the museum's holdings to offer the public an ever new and layered vision.
One of the most significant innovations is the Living depository, an environment curated by Chiara Bertola e Fabio Cafagna with the intervention of Stefano Arienti. Here, the original walls of the building designed in the 1959 from Carlo Bassi e Goffredo Boschetti are laid bare, revealing an architectural skeleton brutalist. In this space, paintings, sculptures and drawings by masters such as Medardo Rosso, Alberto Burri e Lucio Fontana coexist with lesser-known works, arranged on shelves and grids, eliminating traditional exhibition hierarchies. The route goes through distinct phases: from the First Resonance, focused on light, colour and time, to the Second Resonance, which investigates the rhythm and the structure in dialogue with nature. The research then continues with the Third Resonance, dedicated to the’enchantment and to the’restlessness, concluding with the Fourth Resonance, a tribute to the drawing and the paper as a space of absolute freedom.
