In the heart of Valsesia, the Palace of Museums of Varallo hosts an extraordinary exhibition that brings to light the documented origins of the valley: The Year One Thousand in an Alpine Valley. Medieval Valsesia. The centrepiece of the exhibition is the precious imperial parchment of 1025signed by Conrad II the Salianin which the place names of Otroof the Varade Bridge and the Uberto Fortress. This document, kept at theState Archives of Novara and owned by Novara Public Librarymarks Varallo's official entry into written history.
The installation, curated by Mondo Novocombines the historicity of the document with an immersive experience thanks to interactive multimedia stations which allow us to explore the parchment, get to know the protagonists of the period and follow the evolution of the places mentioned. The exhibition is part of the programme of celebrations of the Millennium of Varallo (1025-2025)event awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic and sponsored by Piedmont Region, Province of Vercelli e Unione Montana dei Comuni della Valsesia.
