The exhibition The sculpture by Dante Ruffini – A very intimate adventure makes tribute to the great sculptor from Cremona on the 120th anniversary of his birth, exploring his human and artistic complexity through a selection of around forty works. Edited by Marco Ruffini e Sonia Tassini, with a scientific committee composed of Rodolfo Bona, Sara Fontana and Angela Pizzimenti, The exhibition is divided into ten sections that reflect the depth and variety of the artist's visual language.
On display plaster and terracotta sculptures, marble bas-reliefs, small bronzes e monumental works predominantly sacred subjects, many of which unprecedented and from the artist's private collection, still preserved by the family. Among the most significant pieces are the monumental plaster casts for the Basilica of San Siro in Sanremo and the Cathedral of Montefiascone, as well as valuable original photographic plates taken by Ruffini himself with a folding camera.
The exhibition opens with a section dedicated to family sphere, a recurring theme in Ruffini's work, before exploring his techniques, the centrality of drawing and sketching, and the cultural influence of his environment. The exhibition concludes with two emblematic works: the Christ of 1962 and the Monument to those who died for freedom.
Organised with the support of the’University of Paviaof the International Lyceum Club of Cremona and the Cremona Historical Society, the exhibition celebrates a leading figure in twentieth-century sculpture in Cremona, capable of uniting classical tradition and modern experimentation, leaving an indelible mark on the local art scene.
