The Santa Giulia Museum of Brescia hosts the exhibition Joel Meyerowitz: A Sense of Wonder. Photographs 1962-2022a retrospective celebrating the work of Joel Meyerowitzone of the most influential contemporary photographers. The exhibition, curated by Denis Curti, covers more than six decades of the artist's career, from the 1960s to the present day.
The exhibition presents more than 90 imagesorganised into thematic chapters, illustrating Meyerowitz's stylistic evolution and his contribution to the street photography. Meyerowitz was among the first to use the colour in this photographic genre, revolutionising the perception and interpretation of the complexity of the modern world. His photographs capture the essence of urban life, with iconic shots ranging from the streets of New York to Californian airports, offering a unique insight into American society.
An unprecedented aspect of the exhibition is the series of self-timer made during the lockdown period, presented for the first time in Italy. These recent works testify to Meyerowitz's continued ability to use photography as a means of reflection on individual and collective experience, rediscovering the present in all its facets.
