From Thursday 9.10.2025 to Sunday 1.02.2026

The Gallerie d'Italia - Turin presents the exhibition Jeff Wall. Photographscurated by David Campany.

Jeff Wall (Vancouver, 1946) is one of the most significant and influential photographic artists working today. For over 40 years he has been moving between spectacular staging and thedocumentary observation, creating images that explore every aspect of contemporary society: at once familiar and disturbing, they elevate everyday situations to strange, dreamlike contexts. Presented life-sizehis images are among the most celebrated works of contemporary art.

In his commitment to an art of everyday life, Wall addresses the main social and political issuesexploring the complex ways in which they shape our lives. The topics linked to the nature, to the war, at genre, to the breed and the class permeate his paintings, which are often just as enigmatic as the issues from which they are inspired. His art is influenced by the work of many great photographers and painters, but also by literature and cinema, in particular Italian neo-realism with its alternation of mundane life and drama.

This exhibition is an opportunity to present to the public a major survey, which will examine every aspect of Jeff Wall's oeuvre. From the most important works of the late 1980s to the most recent paintings, the multi-layered development of his artistic language will be traced.

David Campany (born 1967 in London), is a curator, writer, editor, lecturer and Creative Director of the International Center of Photography in New York. Che has known and worked with Jeff Wall for almost twenty years and is the foremost expert on the subject.
He has published several essays and conversations with Wall and exhibited his photographs on several occasions (at ICP New York, Whitechapel Gallery London, Le Bal Paris and FoMu Antwerp). This exhibition will be the culmination of Campany's engagement with Jeff Wall's work.
