Isaac Julien. Museum Dreams

stoneware art 671 presents the first major anthological exhibition in Italy dedicated to Sir Isaac Julien, key figure in the dialogue between video art, installation e contemporary visual culture. Designed in close relationship with the’architecture by Bergamo, the exhibition traces over thirty years of research through five large multi-screen video installations, four of which have never been seen in our country before. The exhibition, curated by Nathan Ladd, develops as a unitary organism of immersive environments designed by Adjaye Associates, where the visitor is invited to become a “mobile spectator“.

Through iconic works such as Lina Bo Bardi: A Marvellous Entanglement e Once Again... (Statues Never Die), Isaac Julien explores how moving images can transform the space, activate the historical memory and put often forgotten narratives back into circulation. The research of the British artist - knighted by the Queen Elizabeth in 2022 - questions the idea of the museum as a static place, proposing it instead as a dynamic field of projection e report. In this scenario, the sound acts as an intangible architectural element and the colour of the rooms (blue to turquoise) becomes an integral part of the installation device, guiding the audience through a sensory experience that fuses history, policy, modernity e decolonisation of the gaze.
