includedFrom Saturday 4.10.2025 to Sunday 30.11.2025
The exhibition INVITATION TO LUNCH. Textiles dress the table, edited by Erika Montedoro, was born on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bruscitti Magisterium and the National Gathering of Food and Wine Confraternitiesoffering an unprecedented reflection on the relationship between textile and table art.
Via samples, original drawings, historical catalogues e advertising sketches of the early 20th century, the exhibition reconstructs the evolution of the tablecloth such as object of use and social symbol. Originally the preserve of the wealthy classes, it is only with theindustrialisation and the post-war economic boom that the tablecloth enters everyone's home, becoming furnishing element and representation of family taste.
Le thematic showcases illustrate as much the elegance of damasks e linen byssus intended for grand occasions, as much as the liveliness of printed fabrics, Scots e squares used in the daily table. A special focus is reserved for the role of the white, to the operated fabrics, at artistic labels, at napkin and the history of household goods.
An evocative "working table"exhibits tools and materials typical of textile design, with specimen-cutting scissors, Jacquard samples e technical drawings. The set-up also includes two set tables thanks to the collaboration with local textile companies.
The exhibition extends into the Civic Art Collections of Palazzo Marliani Cicognawhere the section Textiles dress the table... artfully places in dialogue paintings e historical fabricsenhancing the civic collections from an interdisciplinary perspective.
