On the occasion of the celebrations for the centenary of the death of Margherita of Savoy, this refined dossier review is staged in the recently renovated spaces of the Royal Medal Collection.
The research project takes a close look at the role and iconography of the main female characters of antiquity and the modern age, placing legendary figures as Cleopatra VII, Messalina, Julia Domna, Galla Placidia, Beatrix of Portugal e Catherine of Russia in direct relation to the public and private image consciously constructed by the Savoy sovereign herself.
Through the scientific study and exposure of numismatic collections, The exhibition sheds light on how women's power, culture and political influence have been passed on through the centuries in precious metals. The exhibition offers visitors an original insight into the history of gender and court collecting, revealing the other side of universal history.
