The exhibition The return of women to the factory. Birth of Borgo Vittoria and Borgata Ceronda: 1877-1915 explore the fundamental role of women in the transformation of society and the family in the late 19th and early 20th century. After the crisis in the silk industry, many women workers returned to the textile factories that had sprung up in north of the Doramarking a historic turning point in the world of work.
This wave of industrialisation leads to the formation of new working-class neighbourhoods such as Borgo Vittoria and Borgata Cerondawhich were created to house the families of the workers. The exhibition reconstructs, through documents and testimonies, the daily reality of these women, their impact on the social relations and family structure, as well as the challenges faced in reconciling factory work and home life.
The exhibition offers a journey through time to discover an era of great economic and social change, highlighting the often invisible but essential contribution of women in the construction of Turin's industrial fabric.
