The refurbishment of the Guala Bicchieri bonnet

Among the identity masterpieces in the collection of Palazzo Madamathe bonnet of Cardinal Guala Bicchieri was recently refurbished in the Staffarda Hallenriched by an important recovery: the original Limoges champlevé enamel bracketsacquired thanks to the crowdfunding campaign Returning home. The bonnet thus regains its formal and decorative integrity, returning to tell the public about the refinement of medieval art.

An achievement made possible thanks to the extraordinary generosity of 742 donorswhich enabled the acquisition of the five precious metal ornaments, decorated with floral motifs in enamel. Originally applied to the bonnet that belonged to the Cardinal from Vercelli Guala Bicchieri (1160-1227)these elements enriched its surface, enhancing its function and prestige.

The new display, designed to enhance the work in its rediscovered completeness, testifies to the attention and affection of a wide public for the historical and artistic heritage of the City Museums of Turinand represents a virtuous example of collective participation in the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage.
