The exhibition The intimate world of Ugo Bernasconicurated by Elena Di Raddocomes to life thanks to a generous donation of works by the artist and some of his friends, including Victor Grubicy de Dragon, Tullio Garbari e Piero Marussigsignificantly enriching the collections of the Como Civic Art Gallery. This exhibition develops in the evocative rooms of the first floor and in the Campo quadro space, offering a broad and moving overview of the work of Ugo Bernasconi (Buenos Aires 1874 - Cantù 1960), a painter of extraordinary sensitivity, capable of transforming painting into a poetic reflection on interiority.
On show about fifty works that explore the author's artistic evolution: from landscapes divisionists and monochromes, influenced by the Parisian stay in the studio of Eugène Carrière, to the travel sketches made on wooden boards. Highlights include the female portraiture presented at the Venice Biennales and the Quadriennali in Rome, and the domestic scenes where wife and children become the protagonists of an emotional tale. The heart of the exhibition is represented by the painting Sonshipemblem of family love, flanked by a self-portrait and intense still lifes.
The exhibition is part of the programme The Art of Givingwhich enhances the artistic heritage through bequests and donations, contributing to the preservation of Como's cultural identity. A unique opportunity to immerse oneself in a painting that eschews descriptive realism to embrace introspection, as Bernasconi himself wrote: "You must not paint what is in front of you, but what is inside you"..
