Temporary exhibition
The Grand Tour of Painting
Landscape Museum - Verbania (VB)
From Saturday 7 November 2026 to Sunday 4 April 2027
Great conceptual painting comes to the galleries of Viani Dugnani Palace with an exhibition curated by Elena Pontiggia and promoted by the Landscape Museum by Verbania. The exhibition features around forty works by Aldo Damioli, one of the leading figures in a form of conceptual art that has its roots in the teachings of Giorgio de Chirico e Salvo.
The exhibition takes the form of a wide-ranging journey through The West e East, tracing the Milanese artist’s creative development from his early days, which were influenced by Pop Art English right up to the famous and ironic cycle of the Pizzas of The 1980s. Ample space is devoted to the renowned Venice, New York, founded in 1992, a virtual non-place where the American metropolis is depicted in a calm and serene spirit that evokes Canaletto and the great landscape painters.
The Grand Tour by Damioli continues with simple views of Chinese cities, a Paris nostalgia evoked through Yves Montand and the existentialists of Sartre, one Milan a traffic-free night-time view of Turin and the stadium of San Siro in the sense of a historical artefact. Through crisp, high-definition brushwork, the artist’s painting eliminates every incidental element to offer total control over the composition and a world of tranquillity.
