Temporary exhibition
The Living Depot
GAM - Municipal Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art - Turin (TO)
From Wednesday 16.10.2024 to Saturday 31.10.2026
The exhibition project entitled The Living Depot, edited by Chiara Bertola e Fabio Cafagna, with the intervention of the artist Stefano Arienti, proposes a revolutionary perspective on the heritage of the GAM. Located at the second floor of the museum, the exhibition transforms the concept of conservation into a dynamic environment, where art is presented outside the traditional routes. The main objective is to create an unprecedented contact between the public and the museum collection, revealing the most intimate and hidden dimension of the institution.
Through a daring juxtaposition of famous masterpieces e sculptures o paintings less known, the works acquire a new vitality, stimulating critical reflection that challenges the conventional hierarchies of art history. The visitor is invited to observe the “museum machine” from behind the scenes: the works are displayed as they appear to the insiders, hanging from the racks, aligned on shelves or protected in speakers. This visual counterpoint between the mise en scene classical and the deposit of the repository makes it possible to understand how the museum is a living organism and in constant transformation, capable of releasing a’potential energy just waiting to be revealed by the curatorial choices.
