Before becoming a sumptuous Savoy residence, Palazzo Madama it was a fortified castle, whose history dates back to Roman times. The exhibition The rediscovered castle. Palazzo Madama from Roman times to the Middle Ages restores the building's complex historical stratification to the public, rediscovering its most distant past. Set up in the evocative Medieval Court, recently renovated with the scenic reconstruction of the 14th-century portico, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through journey through the centuries, from Roman times until the height of Four hundred.
A central role is assigned to the Decumanus Gate, ancient threshold of the colony of Augusta Taurinorum, still visible and enhanced by new finds from the period Roman and Late Antiquity. Thanks to an advanced study conducted with the’University of Bergamo, The exhibition is based on fifteenth-century sources, such as inventories in Latin and French, and on a rigorous analysis of the medieval remains.
Immersive technologies such as 3D reconstruction and 2D painting offer a realistic view of daily life in the castle, including princes, courtiers, servants, ambassadors and guards. Twelve themed stations illustrate crucial aspects of life in the castle: architecture, devotion, art, luxury, food. Among the pieces on display, the following stand out: Treasure of Desanathe Embriachi Triptychthe Deloche Book of Hours and everyday objects.
Four video reconstructions allow you to virtually explore environments such as the courtyard, the Acaia room, the kitchen and the Prince of Piedmont's bedroom, offering a fascinating insight into the past. The exhibition represents a unique opportunity to rediscover the origins of one of Turin's most iconic landmarksin a balance between historical research, technology and museum enhancement.
