Giulio Turcato. Colour as space

The Rossini Art Site presents an exhibition dedicated to Giulio Turcato, as part of the cycle The friends of Alberto Rossini, an exhibition project investigating the founding nuclei of the collection through the artists who marked the collector's cultural journey. Central figure of the’post-war Italian art and among the founders of the group Form 1, Turcato developed an autonomous and recognisable language, keeping the relationship between colour, energy and perception. The link with Alberto Rossini was born out of a deep relationship of esteem, mediated by the meeting with Pietro Consagra, key figure in delineating the collector's artistic horizon.

The exhibition is conceived as a crossing of the Rossini Collection, in which the work of Turcato emerges through a sequence of environments that render its complexity, between painting and sculpture, between surface and space. In the park, the monumental Oceanic constitute the first point of contact: a sculptural group in fibreglass and polyurethane which translates the artist's chromatic research into space through vertical and dynamic forms. Born from an intuition also linked to a trip to Africa, and submitted to the Venice Biennale of 1972, these works passed through the large anthological exhibition of Ca’ Pesaro a Venice, where they were installed directly on the Grand Canal, before a core was acquired by Raoul Gardini as an emblem of Moor of Venice to theAmerica's Cup by San Diego.

The second core is housed in the pavilion designed by James Wines (Studio SITE, New York), which houses a selection of paintings from the collection - from Gardens of Miciurin at Archipelagoup to Fluorescent - constructing a visual field in which colour, sign and matter become space. The third focal point is the Freedom, soaring structures that embody a tension towards overcoming limits.
