Palazzo Madama - Turin Museum of Ancient Art - Turin (TO)
includedFrom Friday 24.01.2025 to Monday 5.05.2025
For the first time, an exhibition entirely dedicated to Primo Levi as a letter writer. Mail round explores Levi's vast network of correspondence with German interlocutors for over 20 years: readers of If this is a man, friends, intellectuals and even individuals who were 'on the other side' at Auschwitz. These letters span almost half a century of European history, reflecting on the memory of the Holocaust and on a divided Europe and Germany. The correspondences, written in Italian, French, English and German, are enriched by previously unpublished images, maps, drawings and more.
Promoted by the Primo Levi International Study Centre and edited by Domenico Scarpa, the exhibition anticipates the results of the project LeviNeTfunded by theEuropean Research Council and coordinated by Martina Mengoni of the University of Ferrara, which is publishing Levi's German correspondence for the first time on the www.levinet.eu.
The exhibition is divided into five sections:
- Primo Levi. An Early European Thought
- Hermann Langbein. A formidable man
- Heinz Riedt. An anomalous German
- Mail round (title section of the entire exhibition)
- Readers
This exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the figure of Primo Levi through his correspondence, highlighting his crucial role in the cultural dialogue between Italy and Germany in the post-war European context.
