Giovanni Gastel. Rewind

The exhibition Giovanni Gastel. Rewind, edited by Uberto Frigerio, is an intense homage to one of the most important contemporary Italian photographers. Staged at Palazzo Citterio, the exhibition presents over 250 images spanning the entire career of Giovanni Gastelfrom the first fashion covers of the 1970s to the still life, come on portraits of iconic figures to the famous advertising campaigns. Each section of the exhibition does not follow a chronological progression, but an approach thematic and poetic, which gives a personal and profound insight into the author.

The route is enriched by personal belongings, working tools and, for the first time, by writings and poems by Gastel himself, offering an intimate and comprehensive portrait of his creative universe. The exhibition is intended to be a first-person narrative: through notes, texts and images, it is the artist himself who tells the public about himself, revealing the essence of his elegant, ironic and free imagination.

The review, organised by The Great Brera with theGiovanni Gastel Archive and theGuardans-Cambó Agency, reaffirms the deep connection between Gastel and Milan, his hometown and source of inspiration. With a career marked by over 500 advertising campaigns, 170 editorial covers and numerous international exhibitions, Gastel has managed to combine craftsmanship and innovation, analogue and digital, becoming a ambassador of Milanese style in the world.

Accompanying the exhibition is a catalogue published by Allemandi, curated by Luca Stoppini, with over 200 images and numerous critical contributions.
