Giovanni Fattori. The Tuscan landscape in etchings
Giannoni Gallery - Novara (NO)

From Friday 17.10.2025 to Sunday 1.02.2026
The exhibition Giovanni Fattori. The Tuscan landscape in etchings celebrates one of leading exponents of Macchiaioli paintingemphasising a lesser known but fascinating aspect of his production: the graphic worksin particular the etchings. On the occasion of the bicentenary of birth of the artist (Livorno 1825 - Florence 1908), the Giannoni Gallery proposes an exhibition dedicated to the Tuscan landscapesa theme dear to Fattori, which he translated with sensitivity and rigour in his engravings.
The exhibition was created in continuity with a previous exhibition, which focused on the military theme, and is now enriched with seven newly restored etchingsthe result of collaboration with the Cantonal Art Gallery Giovanni Züst in Rancate (Mendrisio, CH). The restoration project, authorised by the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio and conducted by Dr. Francesca Telli, made it possible to recover and enhance works hitherto kept in storage, finally making them accessible to the public.
Among the works on display are evocative titles such as Farmer and oxen, Buttero on horseback, Landscape in Tuscany, Porticciola near Florence, Harnessed horse, Grazing horses e The Bridge. Fattori's dry and poetic engraving language renders the sobriety of rural lifeits slow rhythms and the emotional depth of a lived, rather than observed, landscape. The exhibition is also an opportunity to appreciate the graphic heritage of the Novara Civic Museumswhich possess well eighteen works of the artist from the Giannoni and Cassietti collections.
