Gianni Grimaldi. Religion in the crucible of sculpture

The sculptural work of Gianni Grimaldi explores the profound narrative and symbolic tension that lies between the sphere of the sacred and that of the’human, placing at the heart of his aesthetic exploration the visceral intersection between the faith and the suffering. The exhibition itinerary offers a coherent and evocative exploration of the artist’s creative journey through the sculpture, creating a close and evocative dialogue with the historic architecture of Bergamo. The first section, housed in the rooms of the Bishop's Palace, is home to the famous Bronze reliquaries carried out during the 1970s, an exceptional testament to a mastery of form capable of shaping metal into powerful, expressive forms imbued with mysticism.

The route then continues into the’Old Cathedral, a liturgical and monumental space which serves as the backdrop to the sculptures dedicated to the drama of the The Passion of Jesus and the tragedies linked to the war. In this context, the characters shaped by Gianni Grimaldi reveal just how dramatically relevant they are today, offering visitors a profound reflection on the painful, tragic and universal nature of the’existence.
