Giampiero Rosso brings to the stage at Leone Museum in Vercelli his exhibition My Favourite Thingsa retrospective that embraces drawings, engravings and painting. The exhibition will take place in the atmospheric Sala d'Ercole of Casa Alciatiinside the museum cloister.
An artist of great refinement and sensitivity, Giampiero Rosso was engraver since 1980 and later holder of the chair of Engraving at the Institute of Fine Arts in Vercelli, picking up the legacy of Armando Donna, master of the burin and a key figure in the history of Italian engraving. While acknowledging the influence of his predecessor, Rosso developed a personal style, eschewing abstractionism and surrealism for delving into a unique visual languagecharacterised by continuous stylistic metamorphoses and a strong connection with the existential realism.
The works on display cover a wide range of subjects: landscapes, portraits, social and political contextswith particular attention to the Vercelli countryside, human faces, female nudes and the bebop atmosphere of jazz. His art is in the groove of the Lombard painting tradition, where the realism merges with the existentialist philosophyin a dialogue that still retains a strong relevance today.
