Sprout
GROMO LOSA PALACE - Biella (BI)
includedFrom Saturday 22 August 2026 to Sunday 18.10.2026
As part of the tenth edition of the festival Artfully Made, the exhibition itinerary entitled Sprout, edited by Nurye Donatoni, celebrates the inspired collaboration between two distinguished masters of cabinetmaking: Luciano Tousco, an artist from the Aosta Valley who has been awarded the title of Master of Arts and Crafts (MAM), e Omar Barbero, a contemporary cabinetmaker from Turin.
The exhibition explores the complex relationship between humankind, time and matter, transforming fine craftsmanship into a poetic reflection on our times. Whilst expressed through different styles — rigorous, geometric and minimalist — Barbero, organic, sinuous and shaped by the tree’s natural curves to Tousco — The two craftspeople share an almost sacred respect for the biological rhythms of nature and a categorical rejection of the high-impact approach of mass industrial production.
At the heart of the exhibition at Biella Piazzo the collective work stands out Sprout, an impressive piece of burl wood recovered from the woods of Gaby at Aosta Valley and skilfully transformed into a unique piece of sculptural furniture. The tree, left to its natural form yet interpreted through the sensitivity of the two masters, becomes a symbol of rebirth, demonstrating to the public how the mindful reuse of materials and the precision of the craftsman’s hand can preserve a silent story capable of moving people and fostering respect for the environment.
