Temporary exhibition
Frida - Marilyn: Parallel Lives
Oratory of San Filippo Neri - Galleria Sottana - Turin (TO)

From Tuesday 1.07.2025 to Sunday 5.10.2025
The exhibition Frida - Marilyn: Parallel Lives proposes a fascinating visual and emotional dialogue between two legendary figures of the 20th century: Frida Kahlo e Marilyn Monroe. Two women who, though belonging to different worlds - one a Mexican painter linked to surrealism, the other a Hollywood film star - embodied universal icons of freedom, beauty and rebellion.
The exhibition traces a parallel between their lives marked by pain, passion and unwavering inner strengththrough a rich corpus of photographs, many taken in intimate and private moments by famous photographers such as Nickolas Muray e Sam Shaw. They start with portraits from childhood to shots that tell of their aesthetic, artistic and emotional maturation.
Troubled loves, maternity wishes never realised e political commitment are some of the commonalities that emerge in this confrontation, which goes beyond appearances to reveal two deeply kindred souls. Alongside period images, the exhibition also presents contemporary works and tributes of artists who continue to see in Frida and Marilyn the Inspiring Muses.
The exhibition takes place within the Sottana Gallery of the Ancient Oratory of San Filippo Neri, a Baroque jewel of Turin normally not accessible to the public, can be visited exceptionally in July and August with an integrated ticket.
