The exhibition cycle Echoes: origins and references of British art rockdesigned and edited by Francesco Spampinatoexplores the convergence between visual arts e rock music from the UK in the 1960s and 1970s. The third chapter, dedicated to Peter Gabrielfocuses on the theme of fragmentation of the egomasks, disguises, covers, photographs, video clip and projects multimedia tell how the artist transformed the stage into a laboratory of images, between Genesis and solo career. The tour juxtaposes iconic material from rock history with references from theavant-garde - by Man Ray / Rrose Sélavy to Duchampian references - to dialogue with figures from visual culture such as Keith Haring e Kiki Smithreconstructing a hybrid imagery in which music, painting, photography and design contaminate each other.
The whole project Echoes (in three exhibitions) highlights, with a critical slant, how theBritish art rock has been a model for reading the mechanisms of pop culture and a device capable of allegorising traditions e identity English, from Beatlemania to the visions of Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesisup to Gabriel. A publication devotes a chapter to each exhibition, expanding the reflection with more 250 colour images and insights into the main visual artists involved - from Peter Blake e Richard Hamilton a Hipgnosis e Roger Dean.
