The Carlo Maria Martini Diocesan Museum in Milanin collaboration with CAMERA - Italian Centre for Photography in Turin, presents Dorothea Langeexhibition dedicated to the great American photographer at 130 years since its birth, edited by Walter Guadagnini e Monica Poggi.
Via 140 shotsThe exhibition traces Lange's career from the 1930swhen he abandoned studio portraiture to document the dramatic social and economic transformations in the United States: the Wall Street crash, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, the rural poverty. Emblematic in this context is the famous image Migrant Motheruniversal symbol of pain e dignity.
Later, during the World War IILange photographs theForced internment of American citizens of Japanese descentdenouncing one of the most controversial pages of US history with a critical eye.
With extraordinary empathy e narrative power, Dorothea Lange has been able to tell the faces of theinjustice and themarginalisationoffering a visual testimony that remains deeply topical, touching on crucial issues such as the poverty, the migrations, the discrimination and the environmental crisis.
