For the first time, a major monographic exhibition pays tribute to Domenico Carpinoni, one of the most representative figures on the art scene Bergamasque between the 16th and 17th centuries. Set up in the elegant rooms of the MAT - Art Time Museum in Clusone, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Palazzo Marinoni Barca museum, the exhibition unfolds through a refined artistic journey curated by Enrico De Pascale.
Carpinoni, a painter from Clusone from eccentric personality and prolific exponent of late Italian Mannerism, was influenced by sixteenth-century Venetian painting – in particular by Jacopo Bassano e Paolo Veronese – and Central European figurative models. His work, deeply rooted in popular devotion, reflects the religious vitality of the Seriana Valleyof the Val Cavallinaof the Lake Iseo and the Val Camonica.
The exhibition presents 19 worksfrom churches, museums e private collectionsflanked by two prints which reveal the figurative sources that Carpinoni drew upon. The itinerary also extends outside the museum, involving symbolic places in Clusone such as the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Assumption, the Church of St. Louis and the Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Paradise, home to the artist's masterpieces.
The project is enhanced by a scientific catalogue edited by De Pascale and Chiara Bolis, with contributions from authoritative scholars and a rich critical and iconographic apparatus. The exhibition is completed by side events, including guided tours, concerts, educational workshops and in-depth meetings that recount the faith, art and patronage of Bergamo's confraternities in the 17th century.
