The exhibition Of earth and fire. Sculptures by Giuseppe Spagnulo celebrates one of protagonists of 20th century ceramic and sculptural artby placing the work of Giuseppe Spagnulo, an artist originally from Grottaglieland of ancient ceramic traditions, and adopted by Milancity where he developed an innovative artistic language. Curated by Lia De Venere e Fiorella Mattiothe exhibition represents a profound dialogue between matter and form, between craft tradition and contemporary experimentationoffering the public an immersive journey into the artist's poetics.
Le twelve terracotta works of Spagnulo dialogue visually and conceptually with the lustrous majolica by Arturo Martini and Pietro Melandrigenerating a reflection on the expressive power of ceramic material and on gesture as a means of creation and communication. His sculptures, marked by rough shapes, cracks and vibrating surfacesbring ceramics back to the centre of contemporary artistic language.
The exhibition is also an opportunity for the IV edition of the Prize Women not babeswhich fits into the context of Milan Mediterranean Setpromoting Apulian handicrafts and raising awareness of the gender-based violence. Within the Picta Room, a Life-size ceramic pupaby the ceramist Gaetano Fasano based on an idea by the designer Daniela Comesas a symbol of civic engagement through art.
