Temporary exhibition
From father to son
The artistic world of Giambattista and Giandomenico Tiepolo
Royal Museums of Turin – Sabauda Gallery - Turin (TO)
From Thursday 15 October 2026 to Sunday 17.01.2027
The exhibition documents the extraordinary graphic work of Giambattista Tiepolo and her son’s Giandomenico Tiepolo, tracing the key stages of their intense creative partnership. The exhibition presents a body of 62 works including drawings and engravings from the collections of the Sabauda Gallery and the Royal Library by Turin.
Among the most notable drawings are famous sketches such as the one depicting Pulcinella and the Holy Family, as well as valuable studies by Giandomenico devoted to the observation of the natural world and contemporary society. On display for the first time are three sheets depicting allegories of the seasons and a series of figures that may be attributed to the master’s circle.
The exhibition covers a wide range of works, from famous collections of engravings such as the Tantrums and the Fantasies, characterised by mysterious scenes and esoteric motifs, right through to Giandomenico’s major sacred and secular series, amongst which the Way of the Cross, the Picturesque views over the Fugga in Egypt, the A collection of heads and the illustrations taken from the Jerusalem Liberated and theOrlando Furioso. The exhibition culminates in prints of a visionary and surreal nature, offering a comprehensive overview of 18th-century Venetian printmaking.
