COLLEONI 550. The image of the leader
CARRARA ACADEMY - Bergamo (BG)
includedFrom Friday 14.11.2025 to Monday 9.11.2026
On the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the death of Bartolomeo Colleoni, l'Carrara Academy dedicates a major exhibition to the famous Renaissance condottiere, an emblematic figure in the history of Lombardy and Italy. Curated by Nicholas Colleoni, COLLEONI 550. The image of the leader is a visual and historical tribute to how the iconography of the protagonist has been constructed, handed down and reinterpreted over the centuries.
The exhibition route is divided into four thematic cycles spanning more than five centuries of art and memory: miniatures, portraits, engravings, medals and sculptures show the evolution of Colleoni's image, providing a profile that is as much historical as it is symbolic. Highlights include the portrait of Bartolomeo Colleoni by Giovan Battista Moroni, considered the most authoritative, exceptionally on loan for this occasion.
The exhibition encompasses significant works from 15th to 19th century, such as the miniature by Giovan Pietro Birago, the Marco Guidizani medal, the engravings by Martino Rota and Giacomo Cottaand one bronze casting inspired by Verrocchio's equestrian statue in Venice, emblem of heroic immortality.
In addition to the museum rooms, the exhibition extends into a diffuse itinerary which links the Accademia Carrara to iconic places such as the Colleoni Chapel, the Colleoni Foundation and the Malpaga Castle, offering a complete and immersive experience in the history of the condottiero and the cultural heritage of Bergamo.
