A Chorographic Description of All the Provinces and Convents of the Order of the Friars Minor Capuchin of St Francis

On the occasion of thethe 800th anniversary of the death of St Francis of Assisi, l'Cassine Town Council, in close collaboration with the Capuchin Friars Minor of Piedmont, the “Ettore Amerio” Public Library”, l'IRSAC (Institute for the Historical Reconstruction of Arts and Customs, APS) and the UNESCO Club of Alessandria, presents an exhibition of exceptional historical and documentary significance.

The exhibition centres on the original manuscript of the A Chorographic Description of All the Provinces and Convents of the Order of the Friars Minor Capuchin of St Francis, extraordinary Geographical Atlas of the Capuchin Provinces printed in Milan at 1712. The work was created by Friar Giovan Battista da Cassine, a distinguished cartographer of the 18th century, a leading figure amongst the religious figures from the Monferrato area who embraced the Franciscan rule.

As well as shedding new light on the life of this renowned cartographer, the exhibition allows visitors to admire the exquisite architectures and the works of art of the collection, accompanied by valuable documents and copies taken from the’Historical Archive local venues. The initiative forms part of the programme of UNESCO Anniversaries 2026–2027, celebrating a spiritual and cultural heritage that ranges from faith to literature, right through to the concepts of brotherhood and ecology, in the evocative setting of Cassine.
