Shirin Neshat. Body of Evidence
PAC - Pavilion of Contemporary Art - Milan (MI)
includedFrom Friday 28.03.2025 to Sunday 8.06.2025
The PAC - Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea in Milan hosts the first major Italian retrospective of the Iranian artist Shirin Neshat, entitled Body of Evidence. The exhibition presents more than thirty years of the artist's career through almost two hundred photographic works and a dozen video-installations from the most important international museum collections, including the Whitney Museum, MoMA, the Guggenheim in New York and the Tate Modern.
Multidisciplinary artist, Neshat explores themes such as power, religion, race and the relationships between past and present, East and West, individual and collective. Her art offers highly lyrical narratives and politically incisive visions, interpreting the history and contemporaneity of her home country, Iran, and the world through the female gaze. From her beginnings in the 1990s with the photographic series Women of Allahcharacterised by female bodies adorned with poetic calligraphy, to The Furyvideo installation anticipating the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' movement, the research of Neshat goes beyond the gender theme to investigate the tensions between belonging and exile, sanity and discomfort, dream and reality.
The exhibition, curated by Diego Sileo e Beatrice Benedettiis promoted by the Municipality of Milan - Culture, produced by PAC and Silvana Editoriale, and realised thanks to the contribution of Tod's, with the support of LCA Studio Legale and Vulcano; media partner Coop Lombardia; thanks to Reti S.p.A.
