Through my eyes
Frida Kahlo and the creation of the myth
MyOwnGallery - Superstudio Più - Milan (MI)
includedFrom Thursday 8 October 2026 to Monday 11 January 2027
The figure of Frida Kahlo It is one of the most iconic and complex works in the history of art from the Twentieth century. His life, marked by severe physical trauma and profound emotional distress, has given rise to a powerful and authentic body of work. The exhibition explores the deep connection between the Mexican painter and the photographic image, analysing the process of self-representation and the construction of her cultural myth.
Consisting of no fewer than 71 original photographs, the exhibition showcases the work of extraordinary masters of photography from the 20th century such as Edward Weston, Nickolas Muray, Imogen Cunningham, Lucienne Bloch, Toni Frissell, Julien Levy, Lola Álvarez Bravo, Bernard Silberstein e Gisèle Freund. Through their eyes and their lenses, the artist’s many facets emerge: from her most intimate and private life to her indomitable rebellious spirit, from her physical suffering to her deep connection with the Mexico.
Rounding off the exhibition is a documentary section and the famous photographic series “in assenza”, produced in 2005 from Graciela Iturbide inside the bathroom of the Casa Azul a Coyoacán. The artist was never merely a passive model, but a shrewd architect of her own public image, capable of anticipating visual and identity dynamics that were extraordinarily modern.
