The Ca“ Granda Treasures Museum’ hosts an exhibition dedicated to the history and evolution of the X-rays, on the occasion of the 130 years since their discovery and the 180 years since the birth of Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen. The exhibition, entitled Antique X-ray plates, highlights the first diagnostic and therapeutic applications of X-rays, offering a fascinating overview of history of medicine, science e technological innovation.
On display are ancient X-ray plates, kindly lent by Diocese of Chiavari, next to historical radiogenic equipment belonging to the Marconi-Delpino“ Scientific High School” of Chiavari. To make the experience even more engaging, explanations of the technologies on display are provided by the students of the degree course in Medical Radiology, Imaging and Radiotherapy Techniques of theUniversity of Milan.
The exhibition also pays tribute to the early adoption of X-rays in the Italian hospital context: as early as 1897, at the Policlinico in Milan, Dr. Carlo Luraschi carried out the first X-ray experiments on injured people from the 1898 riots, while in 1904 Dr. Ambrogio Bertarelli introduced the use of X-rays for the dermatological radiotherapy.
