Temporary exhibition
Andrea Bowers. The Spider’s Web
Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation - Turin (TO)
From Thursday 29.10.2026 to Sunday 28 March 2027
La Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Foundation presents the solo exhibition by Andrea Bowers, an American artist based in Los Angeles, whose work has been exploring the intersection between activism and the visual arts. Through drawing, painting, installations and video, Bowers explores the themes of social justice and theadvocacy, bringing to light figures, stories and moments that have remained on the fringes of social struggles.
The exhibition explores the artist’s interest in eco-feminisms, focusing on the women’s anti-nuclear and disarmament movements of the 1980s. Alongside a selection of historical works, the exhibition presents new productions, including a section focusing on the The Comiso Women’s Camp (Sicily), founded in 1983 under the name The Spider’s Web to protest against the establishment of the NATO base.
The new neon art, accompanied by the artist’s characteristic expressive styles — such as the political ribbons and the cardboard boxes — intertwine with rare archive documents, which have come to light thanks to collaboration with a network of activists and researchers. The exhibition thus reconstructs a complex a transnational network of alliances, once again shining a spotlight on a fundamental contribution of feminist thought to pacifism and global disarmament.
