Temporary exhibition
Alessandro Mendini. Things. Rooms as worlds
Villa Giulia - Pallanza (VB)
includedFrom Saturday 16.05.2026 to Sunday 27.09.2026
The exhibition celebrates the extraordinary creative parabola of Alessandro Mendini, a pivotal figure in international visual culture and a revolutionary interpreter of the design and thearchitecture of the 20th century. Edited by Loredana Parmesani, the exhibition takes place in the evocative rooms of Villa Giulia a Verbania, proposing an immersive journey between 130 works ranging from the beginnings in the Radical Design Milanese in the 1970s to the more mature elaborations postmodern.
The exhibition project transforms the architectural structure of the villa into an archipelago of meanings, where each room houses an iconic masterpiece: from the Straw Armchair (1974), a manifesto of design understood as social activism, to the famous Proust armchair (1978), a meeting point between pointillism and decorum roccocò. The dialogue continues with the sofa K2, tribute to the historical vanguards and the futurism, and with the Mendinigraph, a tool that synthesises the author's sign alphabet. Notable is the section dedicated to collaboration with Alessi, with pots 100% Make up, and the monumental work Men's furniture: Jacket realised in mosaic of gold for Bisazza. Each object is related to drawings, paintings e texts originals, allowing the visitor to understand the intellectual genesis of an artist who was able to transform the utilitarian object into a total work of art.
