Guided Tours of Villa Carlotta

A series of special events combining art, nature, historical heritage and creative workshops, set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Como.

1. Greetings from Villa Carlotta

• Type: Themed tour (Museum and Garden)

A special guided tour to accompany the exhibition dedicated to the vintage postcards held in the Historical Archive. The event marks the start of the celebrations in honour of Duke Georg II of Sachsen-Meiningen at Villa Carlotta and, at the same time, in Meiningen, his birthplace, to mark his anniversary.

The exhibition combines a first-hand view of the sites depicted with a selection of historical postcards that trace the evolution of the villa, the garden and the landscape. The project was carried out by trainees on the Advanced Training Course in Museum and Exhibition Curation (SARAS Department – Sapienza University of Rome), in collaboration with the Rete dell’800 Lombardo and the Villa Carlotta Trust.

2. In the footsteps of Princess Charlotte

• Date and Time: 20 August 2026 — 10.30 am
• Type: Guided landscape tour and art installation
• Duration: 90 minutes

To mark the bicentenary of the birth of Duke Giorgio II (1826–2026), the tour takes participants along historic footpaths restored as part of the PNRR project, amidst centuries-old trees and panoramic views. In harmony with the park, a green installation by the artist Maria Dompè pays tribute to Princess Charlotte of Prussia and to all the women who had to give up their dreams, offering an immersive experience within the rediscovered landscape.

3. Open-air painting workshop

• Date and Time: 23 August 2026 — 3.30 pm
• Type: Hands-on art workshop (For everyone)

An opportunity to experience and observe a glimpse of the garden in a completely new way. The artist Cristina Caravello will lead the painting session, offering advice and practical guidance, so that each participant can take their own watercolour painting home. The activity forms part of the exhibition at the Torretta Romantica “Artistic Ceramics” curated by the artist herself.

• Target: Open to everyone, including those who have never painted before and are trying watercolour for the first time.
