Song Dong. Soul Out

The visit brings together two projects that are representative of the curatorial trajectory of recent years: the first solo exhibition in Italy dedicated to the artist Song Dong (Beijing, 1966) and the revamped layout of the gallery dedicated to China, which reflects a rethinking of the exhibition layout and the ways in which the collection is interpreted. The guided tour of the exhibition invites the public to connect with the artist’s sensibility, of which the museum becomes an extension, thanks in part to the inclusion of installations in constant dialogue with the permanent collections, exploring his poetics, which are founded on the concepts of memory, impermanence and the ability to evoke, through his artistic practice, forms of emotional resonance in visitors who “immerse” themselves in his work. The experience of rediscovering the museum also includes the reorganisation of the MAO’s Chinese collection, focusing in particular on the concept of rituality in relation to the funerary context of ancient China.
