Shilpa Gupta and the GAM

A journey through contemporary art and historical masterpieces, inviting us to reflect on the dynamics of our times.

A fascinating journey through Shilpa Gupta’s multidisciplinary practice, winding its way through sculptures, sound installations and performances integrated into the historic spaces of the Gallery of Modern Art.

The exhibition explores the constant tension between individual action and collective experience, examining the works to reveal complex stories linked to the themes of mobility, memory and belonging in a globalised world. It places Gupta’s works in dialogue with the iconic pieces in the permanent collection — first and foremost “The Fourth Estate” by Pellizza da Volpedo — it enables us to appreciate just how strongly the challenges and demands of the past still resonate in contemporary society.

An invitation to listen and take action: Shilpa Gupta’s work shows us how even the simplest, most ordinary gestures can transform our perspective, rekindling our deep capacity to imagine, dream and hope.
