Myriam Bleau + Nien Tzu Weng: Second Self

Having previously hosted the likes of Daito Manabe and Ryoichi Kurokawa, MEET welcomes Myriam Bleau — a Canadian composer and performer who has previously won an award at the Prix Ars Electronica and a guest at festivals such as Sónar, MUTEK e Transmediale — together with Nien Tzu Weng, a Taiwanese-Canadian interdisciplinary dance artist and lighting designer.

Together, they will present the audiovisual performance Second Self, an exploration of the screen as a tactile interface, a prosthesis, a mask and a mirror.

The show’s strengths

• Wearable technology: Small, custom-made LED screens of irregular shapes are attached to the artists’ bodies.
• Real-time interaction: Gestures made on the touch-sensitive surfaces of the devices instantly control and process sound and visuals.
• Concept: The performance explores the boundary that defines the autonomous self, reflecting on how screens and intelligent machines become a “second self” capable of redefining our image.
