Halloween at Serralunga d’Alba Castle
A treasure hunt for children, blending history and mystery
Serralunga d'Alba (CN)
Saturday 31.10.2026 at 16:15-17:15
A key lost during a siege, a tower to reach, and a mystery that remains shrouded within the walls of the Serralunga d'Alba Castle. On the occasion of Halloween, Saturday 31 October at 4.15 pm, the manor house will host “The Secret of the Key”, a new treasure hunt for children aged 6 to 12 which combines play with learning about history. The young participants will be challenged to solve a mystery set in the castle’s past, following clues and completing tasks as they make their way through its rooms.
The Secret of the Key: a treasure hunt set in 1616
The adventure is based on a historical event: the All Saints’ Eve, 1616, when Spanish mercenaries laid siege to Serralunga d’Alba Castle. At the heart of the story is the disappearance of the key to the door of the square tower, which the children will have to try to find.
Accompanied by a guide, participants will explore the various rooms of the manor house, interpreting clues, tackling challenges and following leads to get closer to solving the mystery. Each stage of the treasure hunt will offer the chance to observe details of the castle and learn about aspects of its history.
The tour will make use of the traditional ‘staged’ format to turn the visit into an experience of discovery. The search for the key will thus become the central theme of an activity designed to to introduce children to the history of the castle and to medieval life, making them the key players in the exploration.
“With this new initiative, we want to offer children a different way of discovering the castle, putting them at the heart of the visit. Play and curiosity can be valuable tools for introducing them to history and giving them an experience they’ll never forget.”, comments Liliana Allena, Chair of the Barolo & Castles Foundation.
