The works in the exhibition John Constable. Landscapes of the Soul take the visitor on an imaginary journey to the England of the early 19th century. In order to fully ‘taste“ this atmosphere of the other side of the Channel, in combination with a visit to the exhibition, we propose a gourmet moment in true British style: the experience of a typical five o'clock tea with traditional English sweets - biscuits and scones - and small sandwiches, served at the elegant Caffè degli Argenti.
The tasting, which follows the visit, will be accompanied by a brief historical introduction to Afternoon Tea, which according to tradition was born in 1800, when the Duchess of Bedfors, a close friend of the Queen
Victoria, she made her “five o'clock snack” an unmissable social event at Court.
