What was the atmosphere like between the last months of 1859 and the departure for Sicily on 5 May 1860?  Those were exciting days, full of hope and overwhelming patriotic enthusiasm, which would prompt 180 men from Bergamo to enlist for an expedition from which they might never return... simple people united by a dream, people who sometimes emerge from the folds of history and tell their stories.
