I am colour

The tour guides children on a journey of discovery through works in which colour takes centre stage. As they observe the Museum’s masterpieces, amidst familiar and new shades, the children discover the various characteristics and meanings that colour takes on in 20th-century art. In the workshop, participants paint on the floor on a single large sheet of stage paper, using brushes and tempera paints in primary colours, gradually discovering what happens when these colours are mixed. Each child’s individual mark is lost as it merges with those of others, encouraging the children to adapt to the situation, moving away from the idea of a personal creation and towards that of a group effort, where everyone contributes to the final result: a large, informal painting composed of an uncountable number of colours. In the end, each child finds a colour that represents them and invents a name for it, thus creating a sort of class “colour palette”, where every colour is unique, just like each of us.
