The guided tour provides an insight into the history of St. Charles Borromeo, archbishop of Milan and native of Arona, and the 17th-century statue built in his honour, at the behest of Federico Borromeo and to the innovative design of Gian Battista Crespi. A 35-metre high statue that towers on a hill above Lake Maggiore and has the particularity of being visitable inside thanks to a complex system of tie rods. The visit will end with an ascent to the panoramic terrace at the foot of the Statue and entry right inside its head via an internal vertical staircase.
Notes
- The duration of the guided tour is 30/45 minutes, followed by a climb to the terrace and entry into the Statue.
- Please note that entrance is not permitted for those wearing flip-flops or sandals not suitable for an ascent (sneakers are recommended). Any backpacks or large bags must be left on the terrace before entering the Statue.
- Entry to the Statue is not recommended for those suffering from claustrophobia or vertigo.
- Access is not permitted for those under 6 years of age; accompanied access is compulsory for those between 6 and 12 years of age.
