AM Club | The Engineer and Margarita, the City of Infinite Theatre

Join curator Maurizio Cilli on a tour of the exhibition celebrating a unique period in Turin’s theatrical history during the 1990s, focusing on the dual and simultaneous staging of Karel Čapek’s *The Makropulos Affair*, which took place on 9 December 1993. This extraordinary event saw the parallel involvement of two of the city’s leading institutions: the Teatro Carignano, with a play enhanced by Carlo Diappi’s sets and costumes and featuring Mariangela Melato, and the Teatro Regio, where the three-act opera featured sets by Margherita Palli and the voice of the opera singer Raina Kabaivanska.

The exhibition at the Circolo del Design allows visitors to view previously unseen archive material from the Research Centre of the Teatro Stabile Torino and the Historical Archive of the Teatro Regio Torino, complemented by first-hand accounts from those who made this monumental cultural undertaking possible.
