AM Club | Conversations at Court. Queens on stage

The conversation starts with the oldest piece on display: the sumptuous embroidered mantle for the Parisina, the 1913 drama in music born from the genius of Pietro Mascagni and Gabriele D'Annunzio. The dress, signed by Luigi Sapelli (aka Caramba), is one of the many masterpieces created in the forge of the famous costume designer, whom everyone in the theatre called “the magician”. Founded in Milan in 1909, his Casa d'Arte was a true outpost of excellent craftsmanship, capable not only of making costumes of all shapes and sizes, but also of embroidering fabrics and modelling leather and metal.

The meeting thus offers an opportunity to reflect on the crucial role of costume between theatre and cinema, with a special focus on the delicate art of textile conservation.
