Basilica of Saint Ambrose
Milan (MI)
Saturday 7 November 2026 at 14:45-16:15
The Basilica of Saint Ambrose is a place where history, faith and art have been intertwined for sixteen centuries. Let’s explore the most significant parts of this Romanesque basilica – from the quadriportico to the chancel, from the apse mosaic to the crypt – following in the footsteps of the first pilgrims who came here to venerate the saint. Let’s admire the golden altar crafted by Vuolvino, one of the most extraordinary masterpieces of the European Middle Ages, and make our way to the Sacello di San Vittore in Ciel d’Oro, where the face of Ambrose still gazes upon us through an ancient mosaic. The tour concludes in the Treasury of Ambrosius, which has been completely refurbished: silverware, reliquaries, sculptures and precious artefacts reveal the materials, techniques and symbols that have shaped Milan’s spiritual and cultural identity.
