The exhibition held in Varallo, Vercelli and Novara from March to September 2018 was thean opportunity to discover the greatness of an absolute master of the Renaissance with a simple, theatrical and devotional language, characterised by a strong religious emotionality capable of narrating and conveying the ecclesiastical message with an unmistakable style and who left the most important part of his artistic production in Piedmont. Considered the greatest exponent of the Piedmontese school of painting in the 16th century, Gaudenzio stands out for his highly original and refined style, the result not only of his training in Lombardy but also in central Italy, the cradle of the new Renaissance currents.
The Renaissance of Gaudenzio Ferrari was a project promoted and supported by theDepartment of Culture and Tourism of the Piedmont Regionwith the support of Compagnia di San Paolo e CRT Foundation and the partnership of Intesa Sanpaolo. The exhibition was curated by Giovanni Agosti and Jacopo Stoppa with the supervision of Gianni Romano. The organisation was entrusted to the Abbonamento Musei Association together with the Municipality and Art Gallery of Varallo and the Municipalities of Novara and Vercelli.
