Grand Tour

2008-2019

From 2008 to 2019 Grand Tour was the itinerary programmeon foot and by bus, organised and coordinated by Abbonamento Musei with dozens of voluntary cultural associations, museums, tourist guides, ATLs and various local authorities.

Each year a programme organised in two sessions, spring and autumn, with around one hundred itineraries was proposed between Turin and the Piedmont region and, following the entry into the Abbonamento, also the Lombardy region, with new ideas and themes related to the discovery of historical, artistic and natural heritage.

The Baroque, contemporary art, and UNESCO heritage are just a few examples of the topics addressed during the various editions attended by thousands of people.
Over the years, Grand Tour has also revealed behind the scenes of the restoration sites, the circuit of the great cathedrals of Piedmont, the Sacri Monti of Piedmont, routes through history, cinema and literature in the footsteps of great writers.

In 2008, for example, Turin was the world capital of design and itineraries were created on this very subject, proposing new readings of the historical, artistic, architectural and natural heritage.
The 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy in 2011 saw a focus on the personalities who contributed to national unification.
In 2016, dozens of routes through the most beautiful parks and gardens were proposed, taking inspiration from The Atlas of Piedmont Gardens of which the association coordinated the publication.
Instead, in 2017, the visits were inspired by the theme 'Creativity, Industry, Crafts and Design' on the occasion of theGeneral Assembly of the World Design Organisation hosted in Turin in October.

In Lombardy, on the other hand, in 2019, the year in which Grand Tour began in the region, a rich programme of activities was organised, including organised walks and guided tours, group coach tours and sightseeing suggestions, proposed to create opportunities to get to know all the museums on the circuit. The themes addressed in this first edition were: archaeology in Lombardy and the museum network of 19th century Lombardy. In addition, the project was enriched by a third theme, i.e. the exhibitions organised in some of the museums of the circuit, as an opportunity for further study. In the summer of 2020, in addition to the activities to discover the castles of the Aosta Valley and the routes between lakes, villas and gardens, visits were organised to mark the 500th anniversary of the death of Raphael Sanzio.

Gran Tour is an established project that after eleven years has finally evolved into AM Clubthe programme of activities, visits and itineraries dedicated to subscribers to discover the rich heritage of Piedmont, Lombardy and Valle d'Aosta.
